Facility to produce comprehensive EV powertrain systems
Tsuyo Manufacturing has signed a Letter of Intent with the Government of Karnataka to establish a new powertrain manufacturing facility dedicated to heavy commercial electric vehicles. The agreement, finalized at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, outlines plans to produce motors across multiple topologies, e-drives, e-axles, automatic transmissions, integrated powertrain systems, and full EV assemblies. With manufacturing capacities ranging from 0.5 kW to 250 kW and scalability up to 600 kW through collaborations with CETL and LvKON, the facility aims to strengthen India’s domestic EV supply chain.
The plant is designed to support advanced engineering and assembly for buses, trucks, mining vehicles, and industrial EV applications. Tsuyo expects the initiative to boost local production and reduce dependence on imported powertrain components. Company leaders highlighted that the project aligns with India’s goal of expanding heavy-duty electric mobility.
Testing track to enhance validation of commercial EVs
A key component of the project is a dedicated testing track that will support field validation for commercial EVs operating across diverse terrain and usage conditions. This infrastructure will help accelerate the development of India-specific powertrain technologies, ensuring durability and performance in real-world environments.
The testing track will enable validation for vehicles such as electric buses, heavy trucks, mining equipment, and industrial platforms. By integrating testing within the manufacturing ecosystem, Tsuyo aims to reduce development cycles and support faster commercialization of new powertrain systems.
Boost to Karnataka’s EV ecosystem and employment
The Karnataka Government views the project as a significant investment in the state’s growing EV sector. The facility is expected to generate both direct and indirect employment while contributing to broader industrial development. Officials emphasized that expanding EV-focused manufacturing aligns with Karnataka’s strategy to attract high-value investments and enhance its position as a leading mobility innovation hub.
Tsuyo’s leadership noted that the LOI marks a major milestone in advancing India’s heavy commercial EV ecosystem, combining manufacturing, R&D, and testing under one integrated framework.
