Telangana Sets Bold Target to Become India’s First Net-Zero State by 2047

Greaves Electric Mobility

Telangana has announced an ambitious roadmap to become India’s first net-zero state by 2047, unveiling its “Telangana Rising by 2047” Vision Document. The blueprint positions the state as a global leader in sustainable development driven by clean energy, green industries, and climate-smart mobility, aligning environmental stewardship with long-term economic growth.

Inspired by the “California Model,” the state plans to turn climate revenues into engines of green development. A proposed Net Zero State Authority and Green Energy & Carbon Transition Fund will channel resources from carbon credits, green bonds, and transition levies into renewable power, industrial decarbonisation, and citizen-focused green incentives.

Clean Energy Transformation With 65% Renewable Capacity

The first pillar of the vision focuses on rapidly scaling low-carbon power systems. By 2047, renewables will supply 65% of Telangana’s total energy capacity, supported by advanced thermal technologies and massive storage corridors.

Key clean-energy initiatives include:

  • Ramagundam and Shankarpally as major energy-storage innovation hubs
  • Mahbubnagar and Gadwal hosting large solar parks
  • Round-the-clock renewable power supply through hybrid systems and battery storage

100% Clean Mobility by 2047

The state’s Integrated Smart Mobility strategy aims for a 95% reduction in oil demand and a full transition to electric- and hydrogen-powered transport.

Mobility highlights:

  • India’s largest e-bus fleet in Hyderabad by 2030
  • All public and private transport to run on electric or hydrogen by 2047
  • 6,000 public charging stations statewide by 2030
  • Hydrogen refuelling corridors linking highways and industrial zones
  • AI-driven, multimodal smart traffic systems

Telangana Mobility Valley: A Global EV Innovation Hub

The state will also develop Telangana Mobility Valley, envisioned as a world-class ecosystem for EV manufacturing, battery recycling, hydrogen technologies, and fuel-cell R&D.

By integrating clean energy, next-gen transport, and green investments, Telangana’s Vision 2047 sets a transformative pathway for sustainable urbanisation and inclusive growth.
