Major Investment to Position Kanpur as an EV Manufacturing Hub
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the development of a state-of-the-art Electric Vehicle (EV) Park in Kanpur, with an estimated investment of Rs 700 crore under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision – 2030. The project will be executed by the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, aiming to establish Kanpur as a key player in India’s EV ecosystem and strengthen the local supply chain for electric vehicles.
Comprehensive Manufacturing and R&D Facilities
Spread across 500 acres near Bhimsen along the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the EV Park will feature:
- Manufacturing units for electric motors, chassis, steel parts, and lithium-ion cells
- Facilities for assembling lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, and electronic components
- A dedicated research and development (R&D) centre to drive innovation and support advanced product development, contributing to both local and global EV technology advancements.
Boost to Local Economy and SME Ecosystem
The establishment of the EV Park is expected to:
- Significantly boost the state’s economy
- Create an integrated EV components cluster to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in producing parts and components
- Generate substantial employment and new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and startups, fostering a vibrant industrial ecosystem in the region.
Strategic Location and Logistics Advantage
Located close to the Dedicated Freight Corridor, the park enjoys strategic advantages in logistics and connectivity. Its proximity to both rail and road networks ensures efficient transportation of raw materials and finished goods, enhancing supply chain efficiency for manufacturers operating within the park.
Advancing Clean Energy and Sustainable Mobility
This initiative is a significant step by the Uttar Pradesh government toward promoting clean energy and environmental conservation. By accelerating EV production and supporting sustainable energy adoption, the EV Park aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote industrial innovation, placing Kanpur prominently on the global electric vehicle manufacturing map.
