JSW MG Motor India has appointed automotive industry veteran Anurag Mehrotra as its new Managing Director. The leadership change comes as the company prepares to accelerate its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) initiatives.

Mehrotra brings three decades of automotive expertise to JSW MG. His experience spans crucial areas including sales, marketing, strategy, and business development. His previous leadership roles at Tata Motors and Ford India add significant weight to this appointment.

The transition maintains continuity through Rajeev Chaba, who will serve as an advisor and remain on the Joint Steering Committee. Under Chaba’s leadership, MG established strong market presence and introduced several innovative products in India.

“We are at an inflexion point in our NEV journey,” says Parth Jindal, Director of JSW MG Motor India. “Anurag’s deep understanding of the Indian market and strategic vision for New Energy Vehicles align perfectly with our focus on sustainable mobility.”

SAIC Motor’s international operations head, Yu De, acknowledges this strategic shift. He highlights Chaba’s foundational contributions while expressing confidence in Mehrotra’s ability to drive the company’s next growth phase.

The appointment gains significance given JSW MG’s manufacturing capabilities. Their Gujarat facility supports 6,000 jobs with an annual capacity exceeding 100,000 vehicles. The plant serves as a cornerstone for the company’s commitment to developing a sustainable automotive ecosystem.

This leadership change follows the 2023 joint venture formation between SAIC Motor and JSW Group. The company has built its reputation through innovations like India’s first Internet SUV and autonomous premium SUV. With Mehrotra at the helm, based in Gurugram, the focus remains on strengthening key brand pillars and advancing technological capabilities.

The company continues its emphasis on localization and advanced technologies. This strategy aims to enhance product offerings while supporting India’s transition to sustainable mobility solutions.
