Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group, has unveiled plans to install nearly 600 public EV fast chargers across India by 2031. This initiative is a significant step toward supporting India’s transition to electric mobility and addressing critical challenges like range anxiety.

Phase-Wise Expansion

By the end of 2024, Hyundai aims to operationalize over 50 public EV fast chargers at key locations, including major highways, cities, and Hyundai dealerships.

  • Tamil Nadu Initiative: HMIL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 fast EV chargers by 2027. Of these, 10 chargers will be functional by 2024.
  • Current Progress: Three charging stations are already operational in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai, with seven more nearing completion.

Advanced Infrastructure Features

  • Charger Configurations: DC 150 kW, DC 60 kW, and DC 30 kW to meet diverse EV requirements.
  • Accessibility: Chargers are open to all four-wheeler EVs, irrespective of brand.
  • myHyundai App: Offers real-time updates and seamless access to 10,000+ charging points nationwide through collaborations with ChargeZone, Statiq, and others.

Supporting India’s EV Ecosystem

Hyundai’s charging network has already facilitated 50,000 charging sessions, dispensing 7.30 lakh units of energy to more than 10,000 EVs. These chargers are strategically located to cover critical routes such as:

  • Delhi-Chandigarh
  • Delhi-Jaipur
  • Mumbai-Pune

The company’s initiative ensures that EV users can travel conveniently across India, addressing common apprehensions about highway EV travel.

Driving Green Mobility

Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning at HMIL, remarked:
“Our initiative aims to build a robust EV ecosystem by combining Hyundai’s global expertise with a localized approach to infrastructure development.”

This extensive network will not only support Hyundai EV owners but also contribute to India’s green mobility goals by encouraging broader EV adoption.
