Himachal Seeks NABARD Support for Solar and E-Bus Projects

Greaves Electric Mobility

Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Rohit Thakur Sukhu took a significant leap for sustainable rural development by formally seeking NABARD’s support on September 14, 2025, for solar power and electric bus initiatives under the state’s Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The funding aims to build decentralized renewable power, electrify buses, and upgrade rural infrastructure with green technology.

The state’s multi-pronged proposal includes community solar projects to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, accelerate e-bus adoption in public transportation, and enable new job opportunities through installation, maintenance, and green entrepreneurship. Himachal hopes that NABARD’s participation will catalyze private investment, attract technology partners, and create replicable models for other hill and rural states.

These steps build on Himachal’s legacy as a green leader—balancing energy access, environment, and economy. The approach promises to enhance rural mobility, foster reliable clean power, and enlarge climate resilience—positioning Himachal Pradesh as an innovator in India’s growth toward a net-zero rural future.
