The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) formally requested the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to incorporate Auto LPG into TERI’s key study. Titled ‘Comparative Assessment of Vehicular Fuels in India’s Energy Transition A Multi-Dimensional Approach,’ the study evaluates fuels for transport decarbonization, air quality, and sustainable mobility toward net-zero targets. IAC argues exclusion would skew results, especially for gaseous fuels.
Coalition’s Specific Demands
IAC outlined three requests: explicit Auto LPG inclusion in all scenarios, assessments, and recommendations; stakeholder participation in consultations for accurate data on infrastructure and safety; uniform criteria covering emissions, economics, infrastructure, and adoption. The coalition emphasized technology-neutral evaluation including total cost of ownership and well-to-wheel emissions. Director General Suyash Gupta stressed real-world parameters like supply resilience and affordability.
Support Offered and Broader Push
IAC pledged operational data from Auto LPG stations, international benchmarks, and facilitation with oil companies and manufacturers. This aims to bolster urban pollution reduction and energy security via diversified fuels. The group seeks an early PNGRB meeting to contribute effectively. Inclusion could promote affordable clean mobility solutions nationwide.
