Andhra Pradesh Unveils Major Clean-Energy Push With 1,000 EV Buses and 5,000 Charging Stations

Greaves Electric Mobility

In a landmark step toward sustainable mobility, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved the induction of 1,000 electric buses into the APSRTC fleet and the installation of 5,000 EV charging stations across the state. This move marks one of India’s largest state-level clean transport expansions and signals AP’s commitment to becoming a national leader in electrification.

Modernising APSRTC With a New Electric Fleet

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) aims to fully transition to electric mobility within five years. The newly sanctioned e-buses will be deployed across major urban, intercity, and high-frequency corridors.
Key expected benefits include:

  • Reduced fuel dependency and lower operational costs
  • Cleaner air quality in high-density regions
  • Enhanced safety, comfort, and accessibility for commuters
  • Improved service reliability for long-distance and daily travel

The rollout also supports the Stree Shakti free bus travel scheme, promising safer and more comfortable mobility for women.

Statewide EV Charging Network to Accelerate Adoption

Alongside the bus procurement, the government has cleared a proposal for 5,000 EV charging stations strategically located at:

  • Urban commercial zones
  • Bus depots and terminals
  • National and state highways
  • Tourist hubs and rural mobility routes

This widespread infrastructure aims to boost not just public bus operations but also private EV uptake.

A Broader Clean-Energy Vision for the State

The announcement was made during a high-level review of energy and environmental strategies. Andhra Pradesh’s clean-energy roadmap further includes:

  • Expanding solar and renewable capacity
  • Exploring pumped-storage hydropower
  • Strengthening pollution-control systems
  • Installing rooftop solar across government buildings

With these initiatives, the state is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s green transition.
